The Archaeology in Tennessee blog notes, along with many others of late, that we are approaching the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp by Soviet soldiers at the end of World War II. Why do we fight for historic preservation at places a normal human mind would want to forget? I could write my usual long post here, but Rod Serling said it briefly and best at the end of this old episode from The Twilight Zone. Of course, the dilapidated buildings shown in the video clip below are most likely on a studio back lot in Hollywood rather than at the concentration camp located near Dachau, Germany.
